Beneath the Waves

Melek Karacan made the fish bead, a bead maker friend of mine who lives in Houston, Texas. I had bought this fish bead about 3 years ago, so it was time for it to swim.   I started out by making a bead soup of a mixture of blues, purples, navy, in fact, pretty much a little bit of every bead I had from the blue family.

Go to Debra's site for the instructions for this bag.

The fringe gives this amulet bag its name, along with the theme. Hidden among the 3-dimensional strands of seaweed are fish skimming above a coral bed. And the top edge of the bag gives the impression of waves rolling overhead.

Beached Seal amulet bag

This amulet bag was inspired by the seal carving.  Embelished with delica fringe beads that make the sea foam and all the sea shells, it is a site to behold.

Ginger Sizemore -

Featured Artist June/July 99!

all information was taken directly from Ginger's site with her permission - Thank you Ginger, you are a true inspiration!

Beads have always been a part of Ginger's life ever since her mother let her play with beads and buttons when she was young.   Not only did she like beads but has always treasured seashells. Ginger was only about five years old when her father gave her his collection.  It wasn't much to her dad, just a few mementos from his navy days while walking the remote shores of Hawaii. She has been collecting and incorporating shells into her art every chance she gets. The fascination for what the ocean leaves behind, those beautiful seashells and the desire to create something beautiful with beads and threads and seashells have inspired her. Ginger says " I'm blessed with a gift of patience"  because of the time these art pieces take.  She hopes you enjoy looking at them.

BlueLagoon.jpg (18039 bytes) "Blue Lagoon"
was inspired from the miniature blue enamel fish.  They seem to cry out for a lagoon theme in beautiful blues and foam white colors.  The little pearly seashells looked like a good proportion and the clear glass beads dangled like water drops. Iridescent threads give the  impression of fish scales with flickering shafts of light streaking through the water when swimming in a beautiful blue lagoon.
The medallion part of this necklace is 3 1/5" across the top and 4" at the middle of the weaving to the bottom of the longest glass bead. The straps are 6" long with ties that are 8" that let you adjust it to all lengths of necklines.
