Information & Inspiration for using shells in Jewelry:

Work done by the members of the Beady Beach Bums:  Serenity by Design Gallery

Beadnik's latest project: it is so gorgeous!  A copy of a cave painting, big 6x10 inches, and ambitious, on leather and attached to a vest.  It is worked in size 16 to 22 seed beads.  What is of note to us, besides enjoying beautiful work of Beadnik, is that she has used green Dentalium shell as fringe.  Take a look at the close up: Go to Beadnik's site

Amei Luffman's site:   While you are there, check out the mini amulet bag with the be wonderful beach scene.   "Bead Maidens Loom"

Check out this amulet bag is entitled Beached Whale and it is terrific and check out the foam or water effect that that Pat Savu achieved. Not to mention of course her use of shells in the fringe.   While you are there, check out the rest of her site.  Go To MINING CO. and LOOK

Check our Cindi Picou's work - she posted in part this message to our list - ....."When I use the sea glass, I usually glue it to a bail, and then string it with other beads. I also glue it to itself, and make pins and barrettes. If you'd like, you can look at my local Bead Society's page for some of my work. (I'm getting my site on-line soon, I hope) it's at: www.geocities.com/SoHo/Nook/5498   then look in the gallery.

Marie Alton - Artisan from Toronto Ontario - has a very interesting use of shells in her Aboriginal Dream Catchers.   In an e-mail Marie explained that she is mostly occupied with ribbon embroidery but has made these large dream catchers with seed beads, But of interest to us, look at the ones on this page where sea shells have been used. http://www.cohands.com/alton/art-dc.html

Here is an example of a beautiful abalone shell necklace: http://www.artdecorps.com/html/onekind/abalone.html

Check out "Beads On the Beach site - the jelly fish about in the middle of this page: http://www.matatabi.com/bead/gallery3.html

Look at this site and this page for a sea theme . ..... used charms but can you imagine the real thing.......... also check out her beads while you are there. http://www.mazeltovjewelry.com/by-the-sea.html

Check out site "A Lighter Side Jewelry" :  this site will give you some ideas of how to use abalone cabs http://www.artist2.com/abalonependant.html

Look about in middle of this page for a great mermaid amulet bag: http://www.accessone.com/~mishwick/gallery.htm

See these sites of Nancy Cowan : "professional" site, it's: http://www.jewelledmermaid.ns.ca   and her "let my hair down site" with lots of fun mermaid stuff is at: http://www.jewelledmermaid.ns.ca/harpindex.html

To show you what you can do once you've wrapped a cab, (which is the exact technique you can use to wrap shells, sand dollars etc.) go here:  http://www.jewelledmermaid.ns.ca/bracelets.html and there are three bracelets using wrapped sea glass.

This commercial site has some wonderful examples of how to use sliced shells and sand dollars embellished with pearls and other stones.  Liticia Javiercapiz shells at: http://seashelljewelry.com/

If you'd like to wire-wrap your sea glass for pendants or earrings, go here: http://jewelrymaking.tqn.com/library/weekly/aa112398.htm and down at the bottom Tammy has a piece of sea glass which she's wrapped.

Sally Morgan's site: look at her wonderful shell earrings and while you are there check out her wedding designs. https://members.tripod.com/silversally/index.htm

Look at Ginger's site! She does the most gorgeous needle weaving and most, if not all of her work incorporates shells or beads sculptured to look like shells and sea life.  It's one of my favorite sites to oooohhhh and ahhh over, a must see for inspiration!!!  http://www.enchantedfantasies.com/treasure.html
